protocol to detect patient consciousness during surgery

Doctors develop protocol to detect patient consciousness during surgery (via Raw Story )
Waking up during surgery and yet still being too anesthetized to signal doctors that you’re awake sounds like a nightmare, and for some people is a genuine phobia. According to New Scientist, a team at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has identified a “consciousness signature”…

Why am I stuck with costs that I did not incur?

Insatiable Consumerism

I think I am like most people when I say that unless I am bombarded with media generated commercials and or posters reminding me about the things I neglected to purchase, I will never respond to or maybe not even be aware that there is yet another need out there.
Maybe we have become complacent to what is being thrown in our faces because quite often what is being offered is more or less a need that is being created where none existed before. I am convinced that the commercial success of the electronic age is more the result of the proliferation of media commercials than the existence of a real need for these products.

Granted we do worship at the alter of insatiable consumerism so there is a constant need for new products to be created. The fact that we prefer one product over another has more to do with our exposure to that product through advertisements than the real value of the product or service. Are we not more concerned ostensibly with what we can display than what can be of the greatest benefit to ourselves. Let's face it who wants to be the guinea pig for new products. Yet by a strange twist of fate we all want to be the first on the block to have the bragging rights to ownership of every new gadget on the market. Okay so maybe we are not willing to take any chances with an "unproven" product per se but I seem to recall that through time even the "proven" products can also come with their own risks. How often do you hear it being said " they have not got all the bugs out of that item yet".

Indoor AllerGen Control

What, you may ask, does this have to do with anything? Beside the fact that there are gems out there to be discovered that does not require mass media advertisement to be brought to our attention. One such gem is in the area of " indoor allergen control", a subject that's described at length at
http://reecerecon.googlepages.com/

This subject has been given considerable exposure over the last decade in particular but yet it remains nothing more than a curious news item perceptibly without any relevance in our daily lives. Without the mass media coverage necessary to put it on our consciousness or at least until such time it will remain relegated to the "back burners " of everything we do. And therein lies the problem. What problem? The fact that we suffer from certain allergies which emanate from our beds, and invariably our only recourse is to treat the symptoms and not the cause.

As long as big pharmaceutical companies can keep us satisfied by treating the symptoms only, the control of allergens will remain the bane of our existence. Instead of concerning ourselves with the cause of our discomfort we resort to what big business has convinced us we need. At best that amounts to some form of temporary relief and at worst a placebo remedy.
There is nothing new about any of this how often have we witnessed it in the past... palliative instead of preventative solutions. I am convinced that we will need to reverse the psychology that got us here in the first place. There is no denying the grip the large pharmaceutical companies have on us.

Incurred Costs

When you consider the fact that the drugs for which you might have paid literally hundreds of dollars might have cost the manufacturers mere pennies to produce., then and only then do you realise that you were asked to pay all the costs incurred in getting it to you. Costs like sales pitches, mass media advertising an all the other costs that did not add any value. Maybe even if the ancillary costs were to be reduced, it would have little or no effect on the final costs to the consumer.

I would be the last person to suggest that there are large pharmaceutical companies out there which are determined to perpetuate a conundrum of continuous ill health for their own gain. But if profit and monetary gain are the motivating factors here , then I am convinced they would care very little how it is achieved.

Surprise your guests this Holiday Season

Have you ever wondered why it is that despite the fact that you were not in any way exposed to the elements when you went to sleep some nights, yet you awake to find that you are experiencing the discomfiture of rhinitis, eye irritation, asthma and sinus issues.

Chances are that any symptoms which we display that smacks of a cold were probably self diagnosed as being just that . Even if you go the route of the family doctor and have the necessary tests performed that would determine the actual cause, it is still unlikely that you will be prescribed anything more than a drug to relieve the general discomfort.

Under the rug

It's Christmas time and while most of us are obsessing with creating a good impression for our visiting friends and family, the emphasis is still on the things that are the most obvious. We do not want to create the impression that we are not dusting and cleaning. But what about the areas of the house that our guests do not see.

It's nice to have surfaces such as glass, ceramics and polished woods sparkling but beyond that there is still the fabrics and carpets which are the domain of dusts and dust mites which are not visible.

Your guests will thank you for more than your generous hospitality if upon reflection they realised that your bed and bedding did seem to radiate a certain freshness, comfort and coziness.

The 800 pound gorilla

This is not difficult to achieve, as a matter of fact we often only concern ourselves with the 800 pound gorilla, so to speak, in the living room. If only we knew that there were micro sized creatures alive and well and dwelling in our mattresses and bedding.

What are your options you may ask? You could throw out the old mattress or for a fraction of the cost of a new one you could give your old mattress a complete make over.

Call it extreme hospitality or what you will but your guests would feel more welcomed if in response to their comments about the remarkable comfort and restful night's sleep you were to disclose the fact that you had all your mattresses and bedding recently sanitized and that you were delighted yourself about the remarkable change witnessed by the entire family, and henceforth you would be recommending the same to all your friends and acquaintances.

What does "a comfortable night's rest" really mean?

If you have always held the view that we no longer need to concern ourselves with pests and parasites taking over our living quarters, it is time that we seriously reconsider this rather apathetic attitude. Granted you might be less likely to find the kind of infestation often associated with beds that are exposed to a more transient populace like motels and the hospitality industry in general. But unless you pay Ads by AdGenta.com attention to it's cleanliness, your mattress and bedding could be harbouring various microbial pests.
The dust mite is by far the most common procurer of indoor allergen. Given their size, you will not be able to see them with the naked eye. Yet in any mattress, whether it was purchased just one year ago, or one that has never been cleaned, chances are it could be inhabited by as many as two million or more of these critters.
What's the attraction for them you may ask... simply put, to feast on all the dead skin we all shed on a daily basis. If the symbiosis ended there it would not be that bad. But in actual fact the excrement that they produce gives cause for concern. Let's say you are a restless sleeper then there is even greater cause for concern. For as you can see, every time the mattress is disturbed that's when these particulates become airborne, and are inadvertently inhaled as you sleep. Next morning you awake to find all the symptoms of perennial allergic rhinitis. Asthma and other allergy sufferers are particularly susceptible.

Armed with this knowledge, many of us are often inclined to dart out to the nearest store where there is no shortage of labels claiming to provide instant relief. Do-it-yourself methods for cleaning mattresses have been proven to be totally ineffective. And as for your allergy symptoms, you would better off treating the real cause of the problem.
Only trained professional technicians can properly sanitise your mattress. An Acarex Test would be done to show the level of contamination. That would be followed by a process which includes vacuuming, UV-C scanning and finally misting with a non toxic natural enzyme cleaner.http://reecerecon.googlepages.com/

You will be pleasantly surprised, and will delight in what is clearly the instant control of allergies, asthma, rhinitis, odours and bacteria. With regular mattress cleaning you can reclaim and enjoy a healthier home.Tags: , , , , , , , , , , ,
